Yogi Bhajan

Your assistant, Juan

…My name is Juan, photographer, foodie, cook, and occasional organic farmer. Two years ago, I decided to take a new direction in life and so started on the path to being an assistant to various yoga retreats. At the same time I took the opportunity to explore new photographic techniques and spend more time in the kitchen, developing my own take on Andalusian cuisine in order to offer our guests delicious dishes and serve breakfasts with a personal twist.
It was truly the beginning of a great adventure, and I am now sharing a new step of this journey with our guests by offering the best of experiences. I look forward with the wonderful team who accompany me in this great project to welcoming you at our yoga retreat and making your stay as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

I have been practising and teaching yoga over the past fifteen years. I obtained my yoga teaching certificate with the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in Neyar Daam, India in 2003. I teach Hatha Yoga, and over the years, I have developed my own way of teaching, inspired mainly by the teachings of Sivananda and incorporating Satyananda yoga system: applying the principle of developing a witness attitude during the yoga session, using visualisation techniques, and yoga nidra for the final relaxation. I teach an INTEGRAL YOGA, which means that I seek to create a balance between the physical, psychic and spiritual aspects of each individual, so each session is designed to bring about a sense of harmony between both the external (the body) and the internal (sensations, feelings, thoughts) dimensions.
I have a broad experience teaching and leading yoga retreats, as I have been working with over 50 retreat groups during the past three years. I also offer Thai Yoga massages treatments and I have been teaching Thai Yoga Massage training courses for over 10 years. My yoga program is designed to give guests the opportunity to experience the benefits and satisfaction of a daily yoga practice and apply them to everyday life. What I teach and try to portray in my classes comes from my own practice and experience of yoga.

Born in England, I have since spent my adult life travelling and working abroad. image6I found my love for Yoga in South Korea 2011,where I spent a lot of time immersed in Buddhist temple stays, where yoga was practised daily. Buddhism fascinated me, the yoga and meditation practice sparked a magical ,new interest as I began to feel so well and healthy. Six years later I found myself living in Spain, I was still completely enchanted, I naturally decided to deepen my knowledge and practice. I decided to complete a 200 hour Yoga Alliance Teaching Training (YTT) course based on Sivananda Yoga.
I wanted nothing more but to share this gift with others. That would be my sole purpose. An experience which was yet to change my life. After a year of teaching public and personal classes in Madrid, I went to India to delve further into my personal yoga practice and to grow as teacher. In India I completed a certified course in Pranayama, Ashtanga & Hatha yoga at the very root and essense of true yoga, in beautiful Rishikesh. Currently based in Granada Spain.Having embarked on a life long journey, where growth, discovery and strength is at the core, I look forward to sharing your yoga path with you.

…is a beautiful, spacious and tranquil old house with delightful and famous terraced gardens and its own charming large secluded pool, overlooking the ancient centre of Granada, one of the world’s most beautiful and historic cities.

The house has a fabulous view over the incomparable Albaicín, the medieval Moorish centre of Granada, and, remarkably, shares a garden wall with the gardens of the Alhambra, the greatest of the wonders of the Moorish period in Spain. All our rooms have comfortable beds and astounding views. Also, all rooms have an adjacent shared bathroom, except for one room where an en-suite bathroom can be arranged upon request. There is another bathroom outside on the rear terrace. One of the bedrooms has a double bed, the rest have twin beds. It is possible to accommodate three people in the same bedroom, upon request. There is a possibility for single accommodation too, at an extra cost.

The town centre is just 2 minutes walk away, and there are several vegan restaurants nearby, such as HicuriAl-laurel, El Piano and Papaupa retro-fusion food. There are also international options such as the Samarkanda, a Lebanese restaurant and Muglia, an Indian restaurant and of course, traditional local food in Carmen de San Miguel and Juan Ranas with its stunning views. As well as the famous tapas bars of Granada, you also have authentic flamenco shows in Casa del Arte FlamencoJardines de Soraya and Le Chien Andalou.
